Marketplace Dropshipping Policies in 2026: Amazon, eBay, Etsy, TikTok Shop and Walmart

Dropshipping is allowed on every major marketplace, but never without conditions. Each platform has its own rules about who must appear as the seller, where products can come from, how fast you must ship, and what tracking you must provide. Break them, and the penalty is rarely a warning: it is often a listing removal, held payouts or a suspended account.

This guide summarises the dropshipping rules on Amazon, eBay, Etsy, TikTok Shop and Walmart as they stand in late 2026, and the common thread between them. Policies change often, so always check each platform's own help pages before you launch.

Dropshipping rules at a glance

Marketplace Dropshipping allowed? Main condition Biggest "don't"
Amazon Yes You must be the seller of record on everything the buyer receives Buying from another retailer that ships to your customer in its own packaging
eBay Yes, from wholesale suppliers Fulfil directly from a wholesale supplier you work with Buying from another retailer or marketplace after the sale (retail arbitrage)
Etsy Mostly no Only your own designs made by a disclosed production partner, plus craft and party supplies Reselling ready-made, commercially available products
TikTok Shop Yes, with strict logistics rules Meet TikTok's shipping and logistics requirements for your market Missing dispatch windows or relying on slow overseas fulfilment
Walmart Yes You are the seller of record and responsible for service and returns Buying from another retailer and having it shipped to the Walmart customer

The common thread is simple: you can use a supplier, but you cannot hide behind another retailer. The customer must see you as the seller, get the product on time, and be able to come back to you if something goes wrong.

Amazon

Amazon allows dropshipping only if it is clear to the customer that you are the seller of record. Its Drop Shipping Policy requires you to (Amazon Seller Central):

  • Identify yourself as the seller on all packing slips, invoices, external packaging and other information included with the product.
  • Remove anything that identifies the third-party supplier before the parcel ships.
  • Accept and process customer returns yourself.
  • Have an agreement with your supplier that names you, and no one else, as the seller of record.

Not allowed: buying the product from another online retailer and having that retailer ship it to your customer when the parcel doesn't identify you as the seller, or shipping with paperwork that shows another seller's name or contact details (ChannelX). Violations can restrict your ability to sell through the Merchant Fulfilled Network.

Amazon dropshippers must also hit seller-fulfilled performance targets, including a Valid Tracking Rate of at least 95% and on-time shipping. A slow supplier quickly becomes an account-health problem.

What to do: use suppliers that offer blind (unbranded) shipping or your own branded inserts, test-order to check the packaging, and keep your supplier agreement on file.

eBay

eBay allows dropshipping when you fulfil orders directly from a wholesale supplier. What it bans is retail arbitrage: listing an item on eBay and then buying it from another retailer or marketplace that ships directly to your buyer (eBay Community). Ordering from Amazon, Walmart or Target after an eBay sale falls into this category.

What that means in practice:

  • Work with wholesale or dropshipping suppliers that agree to fulfil for you, not with consumer retail sites.
  • You remain responsible for the buyer's experience: delivery within the estimated date, returns and "item not received" cases.
  • Upload valid tracking from an integrated carrier within your handling time. Retail-marketplace tracking numbers (such as Amazon Logistics) are often not trackable by eBay, which leaves you without protection in disputes.
  • Make the item location in your listing accurate; eBay expects buyers to know where an item ships from.

What to do: read eBay's "Drop shipping and product sourcing" help page, keep written agreements with your suppliers, and avoid any tool that converts or disguises retail tracking numbers, which eBay has acted against.

Etsy

Etsy is the strictest of the five. Its help centre states plainly that dropshipping is not allowed, with a limited exception for craft and party supplies (Etsy Help). Reselling is also banned, except for craft and party supplies, vintage items over 20 years old, and gift baskets the seller curates and packages.

The route that does work is a production partner: a company that makes and ships items based on your original designs, such as a print-on-demand service, an engraver or an apparel maker. This is allowed as long as:

  • The product is your original design, or is personalised by the buyer.
  • You disclose the production partner in your shop settings and on each relevant listing.
  • The item isn't a ready-made, commercially available product.

Adding a gift tag or note to an otherwise unchanged product doesn't count as making it yours. Selling generic AliExpress-style goods on Etsy risks listing removals and shop suspension.

What to do: use print-on-demand or custom manufacturing for designs you create, list your partners correctly, and keep design files as evidence of your creative input.

TikTok Shop

TikTok Shop allows dropshipping, but in 2026 its logistics rules changed the model significantly in the US. TikTok began moving sellers to TikTok Shop Logistics Services — TikTok Shipping and Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) — starting in February 2026, with new sellers onboarding from February 9 required to use them from the start (Dashboardly). Seller Shipping, where you buy your own labels and upload tracking, is now available only subject to eligibility.

What this means for dropshippers:

  • Check which shipping methods your account is eligible for in Seller Center before choosing a supplier.
  • Speed matters more than anywhere else. TikTok tracks your on-time dispatch rate and uses it in product ranking, so overseas suppliers with long processing times rarely work.
  • Many sellers now use US-based suppliers, a 3PL or FBT inventory, rather than ordering each item from abroad after the sale.
  • When Seller Shipping is allowed, you must use an approved carrier and upload valid tracking within your dispatch window.

What to do: read the current TikTok Shop Academy logistics overview for your market, and test your supplier's real dispatch speed before going live.

Walmart Marketplace

Walmart allows dropshipping on its marketplace, but you are the seller of record for every order and responsible for on-time shipping, accurate inventory, customer service and returns. Under its Seller Performance Standards, you may not buy products from another retailer and have them shipped directly to a Walmart customer (Walmart Marketplace Learn). Packaging and inserts also can't reference another marketplace or fulfilment provider.

Walmart is also strict on speed. Sellers are generally expected to ship within a short handling window (typically one to two days) unless Walmart has approved a longer lag time, which makes slow overseas suppliers a poor fit.

Don't confuse Marketplace dropshipping with Walmart's Drop Ship Vendor (DSV) programme. DSV is for suppliers who sell their products to Walmart and ship them to Walmart's customers under Walmart's name; it's an invitation-based wholesale relationship, not a way for resellers to list products.

What to do: apply with consistent business details, use domestic suppliers or a 3PL that can meet Walmart's handling times, and make sure every parcel arrives in neutral or your own branded packaging.

The rules every marketplace shares

Across all five platforms, the same principles decide whether your dropshipping is compliant:

  1. You are the seller. The customer sees your business on the listing, the packaging and the paperwork, and comes back to you for help.
  2. Use real suppliers, not other retailers. Wholesale suppliers, manufacturers, print-on-demand partners and 3PLs are fine; buying from another shop after the sale is not.
  3. Ship on time with real tracking. Every order needs a valid tracking number for the parcel that actually carries it, uploaded within the handling window.
  4. Own the after-sale. Returns, refunds, damaged items and "item not received" cases are your responsibility, not the supplier's.
  5. Be accurate. Product photos, descriptions, item location and delivery times must match what the customer receives.

Compliance checklist before you launch

  • Read the current dropshipping policy for each marketplace you sell on
  • Sign a written agreement with each supplier naming you as the seller of record
  • Confirm the supplier ships with no invoices, logos or promotions of its own
  • Place a test order and check the packaging and delivery time yourself
  • Check the supplier can meet each marketplace's handling time
  • Use tracked shipping from carriers each marketplace supports
  • Set up a process for returns and "item not received" claims
  • For Etsy, only list original or personalised designs and disclose production partners
  • For TikTok Shop, confirm which logistics options your account is eligible for
  • Review policies every few months; they change often

Following marketplace rules isn't only about avoiding suspension. The same rules — clear seller identity, fast shipping, real tracking and good after-sales service — are what make customers trust you and buy again.
